Tennessee aggravated assault rises in latest UCR report

KANSAS CITY, Mo- The Uniform Crime Reporting Statistics released their report for the state of Tennessee, covering six criminal categories from 2015 until 2020.

According to the report, Tennessee’s population increased by about three percent during that time period and saw aggravated assault increase by nearly six percent, going from 28,016 cases in 2015 to 29,681 cases in 2020. The report also found a 2.4 percent increase in violent crime total and a 3.3 percent increase in murder and nonnegligent manslaughter.

The UCR report was prepared by the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data using sources from the FBI and the Uniform Crime Report. The totals are based on data from all reporting agencies and estimates for unreported areas.

Revised rape also increased by 1.2 percent from 2019 until 2020, with 31 more cases in 2020 than in 2019. The data reported a 14.3 percent decrease in legacy rape, dropping from 2,173 in 2015 to 1,861 in 2020, and a 13.1 percent decrease in robbery, dropping from 8,361 in 2015 to 7,265 in 2020.
